2010 Multi-session classes and events:

Appliqué Workshop
Judy Cummings, $15 per class, supply list.
Judy will be teaching from the book The New Appliqué Sample by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins. This is for the students who have taken Judy’s appliqué classes and want to continue working on the wall hanging. (The same techniques will be taught at each of the two classes each month. You are welcome to attend both sessions; the fee will be $30.)

Beginning Machine Quilting
Dana Lahargoue, $40 for series, supply list.
In the first session, you'll learn machine set up and basic shapes and backgrounds and will have lots of time in class to practice. In the second session, you'll take your new found skills and put them to work on a continuous line design which you can use as a small wall hanging or pillow. This class is the perfect opportunity to learn from a wonderful instructor. Dana is an award winning machine quilter with many years of machine quilting and teaching experience.

Beginning Machine Sewing
Jennifer Block & Gale Sunderland, $100 for series, supply list.
This is a machine sewing class for ages 9 and up. Students will complete three projects while learning to operate their machines: a pillowcase, a zippered bag, and pajama shorts. This is a great opportunity for children (and adults) to learn to sew. (If you don’t have a sewing machine, there are a few available for use at an additional cost.)

Crazy Quilting
3 classes, Toni Jordan, $60 for series, supply list.
In the first session you’ll construct a 14” block using a wide variety of fabrics; cottons, silks, tapestries, velvets, linens… In the second session you will start the embellishments. You will learn a variety of embroidery stitches using different threads and techniques. In the third session, you will learn more embroidery stitches and embellishment techniques using buttons, laces, jewelry and other “finds”. Garment Sewing Techniques
5 classes, Marilyn Stanley, $15/class or $70 for all five, supply list.
This series of classes covers sewing construction details that vary from the basic construction techniques directed in pattern guide sheets. Some will add a designer look to your garment, others are best suited for specific fabric types, and some will be options for specific figure types. Samples will be demonstrated in class with time for class members to do a favorite sample.

Intermediate Machine Sewing
Natalie Lee, $15, supply list.
This is a class for students who know how to use a sewing machine and have basic sewing skills, but want to improve their garment-sewing skills. You will choose a See-n-Sew pattern (skirt or dress) and Natalie will help you fit the pattern to your measurements and finish the garment.

The Mad Hatter's Tea Party
Betty Thomas, $40 (includes pattern), supply list.
The time has come for a mad and kooky tea party. You’ll be served tea and cookies while Betty presides over the party and teaches you how to make this quilt that will definitely enhance your future celebrations. This charming quilt features cakes and teacups that are slightly off kilter, just like the Mad Hatter himself, and it’s a great stash buster. Come join the fun!

Quilters University-Beginning
ongoing class, Judy Cummings, $15/class, supply list.
These sessions are for beginning and intermediate quilters. If you’ve never made a quilt before, or if you’ve made a quilt or two, but still have questions, this is the class for you. Judy Cummings will teach beginners how to piece and help solve problems for beyond-beginner quilters (how to make a particular block, how to bind a quilt, etc.). Beginning quilters will use the book Quilts! Quilts!! Quilts!!! by Diana McClun & Laura Nownes.

Sewing Machine Tuneup by Chris Botts, 4th Monday of each month, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., $50. Chris has many years of experience doing renovations on the major makes of sewing machines, including Juki, Janome, Bernina, Viking, Pfaff, and Kenmore. Leave your machine with Chris for an hour and he'll take off the bottom and top of the machine, clean and oil it, and test and adjust the top and bottom tensions. Chris specializes in Featherweights. Please call Tayo's to reserve your time. |

- American Girl Doll Sit-and-Sew, 4th Wednesday of the month, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., Contact: Susan Mudgett. All you moms, grandmas, and aunties ... come and join Susan and share patterns and ideas to make garments for your special little girl's American Girl (or other 18") doll. Susan will have lots of adorable clothes to share with you. Bring your sewing machine (or knitting needles, crochet hooks, etc.) and be prepared to be creative and have a great time.

- Blankets for Preemies, 3rd Friday of the month, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Contact: Susan Berbec at sberbec@sbcglobal.net. No fees, but pre-registration is appreciated. These blankets are for the Sutter Roseville NICU. A blanket on top of an isolette helps retain warmth, muffles noises, and allows parents to easily identify their baby, and the blanket goes with the family when the baby’s stay at the NICU is finished. Bring supplies to make a blanket of your choice (quilted, knitted, crocheted, ‘fleeced’, etc.) and a potluck dish to share. Finished blankets should be 36”x36”. This is a good opportunity for your people looking to fulfill community service requirements. If you would like to donate supplies or participate on your own at home, contact Susan.

- Sew Day with Cindy, Cindy Needham, Thu, Sep 2, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., $20 fee, supply list. Have a finished quilt top, but can’t decide how you want to quilt it? Bring it to this class and Cindy will help you choose your quilting designs using her large stash of stencils. If you have quilt tops that need basting, she will have her basting table and supplies available. If you need that extra help with your free motion quilting skills, bring your machine and marked/basted top and she can hone those skills with great tips and techniques.
- Open Thread Bar, Cindy Needham, Fri, Sep 3, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., $40 fee, $10 kit, supply list. Cindy is an educator for Superior Threads and she teaches this workshop for guilds on a national level and at many of the major quilt shows. She will teach you the tips and techniques of using specialty threads, how to work with your machine tension, and correct needle usage. She will have an "open thread bar" available to you for the day so that you can play with these threads. Floral panels, practice panels, batting packets, etc. are all prepared for you. She will have a variety of quilts with her to demonstrate different threads and techniques.

Grab your quilting buddies and join Dana for a fun, informative evening of making labels and learning how to journal all of your precious quilts. Our quilts are our legacy to our family for many generations to come, so let’s make sure that your hard work and love are well documented. In the very fun, relaxing class you will learn all the different ways and materials that can be used to make beautiful labels to complement your quilts. This method creates raised surfaces on the quilt for a beautiful, dramatic effect. Come in and see the amazing, lovely samples Dana has on display, then sign up for the class and make your own gorgeous pillows, wall hangings, table runners, and quilts.

- Crochet on Hemstitch, Shenna Mealey, Tue, Sep 14,1:30 -- 3:30 p.m., $15 fee, supply list. Learn how easy it is to create a decorative crocheted edge as an embellishment on burp cloths, bibs, blankets, and booties. You will use a burp cloth as your class project, if you have no previous crochet experience. If you want to make the hemstitched booties, you must have taken a previous hemstitch class.

- It’s a Wrap, Dianne Wilford, Wed, Sep 15, Noon – 4:30 p.m., $35 fee, supply list. Learn the basic techniques of fabric baskets. In this class you will learn to wrap, coil, and zig-zag a basket or bowl. The class project will produce a fun one-of-a-kind medium size circular bowl. Samples and demos will be shown during the class. The possibilities and styles are endless. (See picture for Aug 22 class.)

Rami's 'Charm'-ing Tote, Rami Kim, Thu, Sep 23, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., $40 fee, supply list. This is the purse Rami taught in June. Everyone's purse turned out beautifully, and we've all gotten so many comments (and envy) when we carry them, that Rami has agreed to teach the class again. And you can finish this purse, except for attaching the handles, during the class, since it uses charm packs (or you can cut your own squares before class). Don't delay signing up...this class will fill up fast. |

Daisy Doodle, Sheila Meehan, Wed, Sep 29, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., $40 fee, supply list. This quilt looks complicated, but it’s surprisingly simple. What looks like a lot of curved seams is actually done with bias strips. It’s very pretty made with 30’s fabrics or other small prints, and is a great “stash buster”. |
